AKHENATEN’S FACE

The face of Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh, Akhenaten who reigned from 1350-1334 BC. He is noteworthy for abandoning traditional Egyptian polytheism and introducing the worship of a single God, Aten. The sudden change of religion was met with disdain.

After he died, his reign was struct from the official records of Egypt, his radical new art style was condemned and his legacy was almost completely erased from history. Total damnatio memoriae.

Some say he was a heretic, others say he was a brave leader who believed so much in his cause that he was willing to goad the Egyptian masses by forcing his religion onto them.

Was Akhenaten the first Monotheist in history?
