This is the mummy of Lady Rai. She lived around 3549 years ago during the 18th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt. She was a nursemaid to Queen Ahmose-Nefertari and died when she was in her early 30s.
Her remains are one of the finest examples of mummification. The main focus of her mummy is her beautiful hair. Her braids look as though they were twinned yesterday. This is testament to the embalmers who clearly by this point in history had perfected their craft.
She is of slim build and (although not pictured) has small, dainty hands - frozen in time.
A CT scan carried out in 2009 revealed she had a diseased aortic arch. This indicates she may have suffered a heart attack but the cause of death is not certain.
