GIZA AT DUSK
An artist’s impression of how the Giza Plateau may have looked 4500 years ago.
As the sun sets behind the great pyramid, the streets and walkways lose their light. This was remedied with torches scattered around, lighting the way.
The people go about their business. Carrying grain, delivering wine, carrying messages from one business to another, making clothes and bartering for trade goods. Daily tasks in an ancient land.
The scene seems to reflect a peaceful time. The pyramid in the background would have been a newly built monument. Its polished surface would have reflected the sunlight during the day and cast an enormous silhouette against the sky during moonlight hours.
The existence of the pyramids was known throughout all of antiquity.
Word of their almost unimaginable size spread to the four corners of the globe.
Their purpose is still not fully understood.
