These ancient walls have stood for thousands of years. It is said to be one of the burial places of Osiris. The beautiful temple of Isis.

It was mentioned throughout history by well-known names such as Strabo, Diodorus Siculus, Ptolemy, Seneca and Pliny the Elder. It was clearly one of the most important places in Egypt during the 6th and 7th centuries BC and beyond.

Most of Philae’s surviving structures were built in the Ptolemaic era. It became a prominent site of pilgrimage not only for Egyptians and Nubians but for pilgrims from as far as Anatolia, Crete, and the Greek mainland.

It was a place of huge importance even during antiquity. People would travel for hundreds of miles to reach the area. The gods were a big deal.
