This person once ruled the greatest ancient civilisation that ever existed - Ancient Egypt.
He was the most powerful man on the planet between the years of 1386 to 1349 BC.
His wealth was indescribable.
He is Amenhotep the Magnificent.
Father of Akhenaten and grandfather of Tutankhamun, Amenhotep III took the throne when his father, Thutmose IV, died.
As you can see, his mummy is in a pitiful state. Desecrated by ancient tomb robbers, his linen was literally ripped from his flesh which exposed his face to the elements - leaving it to decompose.
His chest has been opened up like a void. An empty chest with an amalgamation of bones, dust and wrappings. This cavity is so hollow that his spine is clearly visible.
An examination of his body revealed that he died between the ages of 40 and 50. At the time of his death, Egypt was at the absolute height of its power. A letter regarding the death of Amenhotep by a foreign leader is noted as saying the following.
When I heard that he had gone to his fate, I sat down and wept. On that day I took no food, I took no water.
This shows Amenhotep’s extreme importance to not only Egypt but to its neighbouring countries as well.
