Great grandmother of Tutankhamun, grandmother of Akhenaten and mother of queen Tiye.
Her name is Tjuyu.
She died approximately 3,410 years ago.
Also known as Thuya and Thuyu, she is one of the most important women that ancient Egypt ever saw. Wife to Yuya, she gave birth to Tiye, who eventually became the Great Royal Wife of Amenhotep III.
There is also some notion that she was mother to Ay, who was active during the reign of Akhenaten and who eventually became pharaoh after Tutankhamun’s death.
As you can see, her mummy is one of the most impressive ever found. Along with her husband’s mummy, Yuya, their preservation is remarkable. Her features are clearly distinguishable and her hair is a bright blonde colour owing to the embalming oils applied during mummification.
